openCost

The project "openCost: automated, standardised delivery and open provision of publication costs and publishing agreements" was launched by Bielefeld University Library, the German Electron Synchrotron DESY (Hamburg) and Regensburg University Library. It aims to create a technical infrastructure with which publication costs for Open Access publications can be comprehensively recorded and made openly accessible using standardised interfaces.

The project consists of the following building blocks

Standardised metadata schema
This schema will allow to collect and expose all costs involved in scientific publishing be it in closed or open access fees, memberships, licencing costs etc.
Open interface
Building upon the well established OAI-PMH interface this will allow easy exchange of locally collected cost data with aggregator platforms.
Extension of the Electonic Journal Database (EZB)
By enhancing the administration backend, this module will allow to display cost data, memberships etc. together with the usual journal information hosted at EZB.
