Publishing Options for Authors

Beware of Predatory Open Access Publishers

Open Access publishing business models sometimes involve charging publication fees to authors without providing the editorial and publishing services. If you recieve offers from publishers/journals you do not know, it is a good idea to check with your library and consult the archive copy of Jeffrey Beall's list of publishers and independent journals that might be predatory publishers.

Options

Open Access Publishing Options for DESY Authors

SCOAP³: JHEP, European Physical Journal C, Nuclear Physics B, Physics Letters B are pure OA journals. DESY pays annual contributions to the consortium which then pays the publisher such that authors do not have to pay an individual article charges.
Artciles in Acta Physica Polonica B, Advances in High Energy Physics, Chinese Physics C, Physical Review C, Physical Review D, Physical Review Letters, Progress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics which also are in a hep-category of arXiv are payed by the SCOAP³ consortium as well.
Physical Review Accelerators and Beams: This is an OA journal sponsored by several American institutes, CERN and DESY. No article charges have to be paid.
Europhysics Letters (EPL): Experimental and theoretical letters in the PACS categories 10 and 20 are published Open Access free of charge.
New Journal of Physics: The publication charge of 605 euro will be paid by the DESY library.
Other OA journals: There are a few other OA journals some of which do not demand article charges (see also our journal web page)
